In which cases you need:
Inserting retainers
Retainers are a necessary last step in braces treatments, about which, however, relatively little is known. They are key to maintaining the results achieved with orthodontic treatment.
What do the retimers do?
The so-called. A retention appliance is made after the treatment is completed and the braces are removed. The function of this appliance is to hold the teeth in place for some time until the tissues around them are finally reorganized.
This time depends on the judgment of the orthodontist and is individual for each patient. The important thing is that regular and correct wearing of retainers is a guarantee of stability, stability and therefore – the aesthetics of the bite.
Moving retainer
It is most often worn at night – during sleep. Of course, the patient can also put it on during the day without interfering with normal communication and activities. Retention devices are transparent, so they don’t cause any aesthetic concerns. At the same time, they can be removed whenever you wish.
Fixed retainer
It attaches to the inner surface of the front teeth and cannot be removed. It is a sort of thin metal “string” that is very strong and sticks to the back surface of the upper and lower incisors and canine teeth. The fixed retainer is very discreet, not visible and does not interfere with either eating, speaking or cleaning.
How long do they need to be worn?
In the most common case, retainers are worn during the first years after removal of the orthodontic appliance. We may recommend a longer period of time for individual patients. It depends on many factors, including the age of the patient, the specifics of the orthodontic treatment undergone, the “stubbornness” of the jaw, etc.
It is important not to stop regular check-ups with the orthodontist during this period, so that he can monitor your condition and give the right recommendations for follow-up care in time.
Retainers do not cure, they keep the results of the treatment. Therefore, it is necessary for the patient to protect them through proper care and maintenance.
Fixed ones are cleaned during daily oral hygiene with a toothbrush and dental floss. Removable apparatus, on the other hand, should be washed regularly with a soft brush and water, then placed in special boxes to prevent the growth of microorganisms.
Our orthodontic specialists will guide you throughout the process. Once you’ve reached the retention appliance together, you have a successful orthodontic treatment of your smile behind you. You can also rely on their expertise in the final steps of carrying, maintaining, caring for and storing your retainers.
